Dumas Art Project, a public art festival supported by the Yuj Arts Foundation, was inaugurated on September 18, 2024, at VR Surat. This year's theme, 'Transcending Boundaries,' encourages innovative artistic expressions. The event featured a ceremonial lamp lighting by Ms. Shalini Agarwal, the unveiling of the 'Kala Car,' and a captivating sand art performance titled 'Sands of Time' by Sarvam Patel. With over 200 installations from esteemed art students, the festival showcases a variety of artworks, including sculptures and photography, highlighted by the Kala Car and the Basement Art Project, which transforms the venue's basement into an art gallery.
The festival features installations from students of JJ School of Arts, M.S. University Vadodara, Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Chitrakala Parishath, Sarvajanik School of Fine Arts, and the JD Institute of Fashion Technology. Highlights include a photo exhibition based on UNESCO's “A Braided River: The Universe of Indian Women in Science” and a digital showcase. An international collaboration with the Arts for the Future Festival in New York further enhances the festival’s inclusivity and global reach.
Visitors can participate in workshops on Strings art, block printing and Mirror Mosaic etc., while the Dumas Art Bazaar features local artisans and live music. Folk performances and handicraft displays, in partnership with UNESCO and Rajasthan Tourism, enrich the cultural experience.
